위스키 업계가 최고급 라인업을 앞세운 ‘하이엔드’ 전략으로 시장 공략에 박차를 가하는 모습이다. 코로나19로 억눌린 소비가 ‘명품’으로 쏠리는 현상이 위스키 시장에도 그대로 나타날지 관심이 쏠린다.
세계적인 싱글몰트
위스키 브랜드 ‘맥캘란’을 수입·유통하는 디앤피스피리츠는 최근 맥캘란 파인앤레어, 레드컬렉션, 익셉셔널 싱글 캐스크 시리즈 등 최고급 라인업 3종을 새롭게 선보였다. 특히 파인앤레어는 국내에서 딱 2병만 판매할 정도로 높은 희소성을 자랑한다.
이번에 내놓은 ‘맥캘란 파인앤레어(Fine & Rare)’ 시리즈는 1920년대부터 1990년대 증류한 원액으로 만든 최고급 빈티지 라인이다. 2019년 런던 소더비 경매에서 ‘맥캘란 파인앤레어 1926’이 190만달러(약 21억1300만원)에 낙찰돼 위스키 경매 최고가를 경신하기도 했다.
모든 병마다 고유 캐스크 일련번호와 병입 연도가 위스키 메이커의 자필 서명과 함께 표기돼 있다. 캐스크별로 고유하고 독특한 맛에 소장 가치까지 겸비해 국내 위스키 애호가와 수집가들 관심을 끈다. 이번에는 1979년과 1990년에 증류한 파인앤레어를 각 1병씩만 선보인다. 맥캘란 관계자는 “가격은 공개되지 않았지만 두 병 모두
1000만원을 훌쩍 넘어설 것으로 보인다. 해외에서 파인앤레어 ‘맥캘란 1979’는 1만4500달러(약 1650만원)에, ‘맥캘란 1990’은 1만2000달러(약 1360만원)에 판매 중이다. 라고 설명했다.
또 다른 프리미엄 한정판 제품 ‘익셉셔널 싱글 캐스크(이하 ESC)’ 도 판매된다. 1994년부터 2008년까지, 매년 수십만 개 위스키 오크통 중 가장 뛰어난 풍미를 지닌 오크통에서 나온 위스키 원액을 모아 만든 제품. 이번에는 1995년, 2004년, 2008년에 병입한 제품을 국내에서 각 18병씩만 선보인다. ‘ESC 1995’와 ‘ESC 2004’는 세계적인 위스키 메이커 스티븐 브렘너가, ‘ESC 2008’은 맥캘란 첫 여성 위스키 메이커인 사라 버지스가 선택한 오크통 원액으로 만들었다.
이외에 지난해 12월에 나오자마자 완판을 기록한 ‘맥캘란 레드 컬렉션’ 시리즈 관련해서는 그간 국내에는 내놓지 않았던 78년산 제품을 선보인다.

Deep amber color. Complex aromas of lush fruit (orange, lemon, red currant) and oak spices (cinnamon, clove, and licorice).
Rich, silky body. Great balance and depth of flavor, with complex fruit and wood spices similar to its aroma all wrapped in toffee and vanilla fudge. Very long, evolving, and satisfying finish.
